The journey to Geiranger often begins in the charming coastal town of Ålesund on the west coast of Norway. Ålesund is easy to reach by plane, boat, and car. Ålesund Airport Vigra has daily flights from Oslo and other major Norwegian cities, as well as several international connections. From the airport, you can reach the town center in about 20 minutes by bus or taxi.
From Ålesund, you can continue your journey to Geiranger in several ways. Many choose to travel by sea, where modern fjord boats take you through some of the most beautiful fjord scenery in Norway. Alternatively, you can drive yourself or take the bus through magnificent mountain and fjord landscapes on the way to Geiranger.
Throughout the summer season, you can also make use of the ferry connection between Hellesylt and Geiranger, while the roads across the mountains offer several scenic route options into the village.
